POSITION OVERVIEW


The Vice President, Software Engineering will provide hands-on leadership to our software development team, ensuring timely project delivery aligned with strategic business goals. We seek a dynamic, hands-on leader experienced with modern technology stacks who excels in mentoring employees and scaling teams effectively. Deep expertise with financial systems, particularly fixed income technology, including building trading systems, clearing, settlement, and accounting platforms, is essential. Familiarity with mortgage-backed securities and repo financing agreements is highly desirable. This role reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer, and this position may include travel onsite to Westport, CT or Bethesda, MD locations.

Responsibilities

    • Provide hands-on leadership to software development teams, guiding technical decisions and translating strategic vision into actionable tasks.
    • Actively participate in software architecture, development, and technical troubleshooting as necessary.
    • Collaborate closely with senior technical and business stakeholders to ensure alignment of technology solutions with company objectives.
    • Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement in an agile environment.
    • Mentor, coach, and support professional growth, proactively managing team recruitment and expansion.
    • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of trading, clearing and settlement platforms, and accounting systems.
    • Establish efficient development processes, quality standards, and DevOps practices leveraging modern tools and methodologies.
    • Conduct regular code and architectural reviews to ensure adherence to best practices.
    • Proactively identify and mitigate risks, dependencies, and resource constraints.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science related discipline, or equivalent business experience.
  • 10+ years of software development experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Hands-on experience with fixed income technology, including trading systems, clearing, settlement, and accounting platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to scale technical teams and mentor staff effectively.
  • Proficiency in Java, Groovy, Spring, MongoDB, distributed systems, containerization, Terraform, DevOps processes (CI/CD, Jenkins, automation tools), and cloud platforms (preferably AWS).
  • Exceptional leadership, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Familiarity with mortgage-backed securities and repo financing agreements.
  • AWS certifications such as Developer, DevOps Engineer, or Data Engineer.
  • Exposure to Broadridge Impact, MBS Expert, and FinancePro.

COMPENSATION

 

The expected base salary range for this position is $250K-$300K commensurate with experience and qualifications. AGNC Mortgage Management, LLC may also pay bonuses and equity compensation in its sole discretion depending on the overall financial performance of the business and the employee’s performance.
